CUC volunteers presented this week at the annual CTAHPERD conference, introducing the sport of Ultimate to new physical education teachers. The presentation included the basics of Ultimate and several demonstrations of useful drills that may be used in classes. This successful outreach was supported by presentation materials provided by USA Ultimate, and four highly motivated CUC volunteers Owen Butler, Zach Putney, James Sweney, and Chuck Dortenzio.

After a rain delay of one week, Division II teams gathered at Amity Regional High School for the Division II State Championships. The fourth-seeded team from Greens Farms Academy defeated strong competition from first-seed Newtown High School and third-seed Oxford High School to win their first championship. Teams from North Haven, Avon, and Chase also had strong showings. Many thanks to Amity for hosting this event on short notice!
Middletown High School returned to the top of the CT High School Ultimate world by defeating a strong Hotchkiss squad 10-9 in a very competitive finals match. The 2017 CT HS Division I State Tournament featured a high level of competition from all 8 teams, including notable new Division I teams from Wooster School and Watkinson School. The CT High School Division II Tournament will be held next weekend on May 21st at Amity Regional High School.
Fairfield Ludlowe High School Ultimate, in just its third year of existence, capped a strong 2016 season by winning the CT State Championship. They fended off strong tournament challenges from Middletown, Choate, and 2015 reigning champs Hotchkiss to secure the title. The Forman School finished its day undefeated, winning the Div II Championship over an impressive first-year program from Oxford High School.
Vehro Titcomb led nearly 30 players from across the state through drills and structured scrimmages for three hours this past Sunday. The clinic was designed to help players at a range of skill levels get ready for the upcoming spring season. New and familiar faces from Middletown HS, Xavier, The Wooster School and Hotchkiss worked hard, got to know each other better, and saw visible improvement over the course of the afternoon.
The Hotchkiss School Ultimate program reached the promised land this year, securing its first state title in its program's history. It's taken many years of hard work and development by Mr. Dave Thompson and his staff, culminating in what is becoming a dominant season this year. Middletown High School again reached the finals this year and provided a strong challenge for the title.
Congratulations to the 2014 CUC U-19 Boys YCC team for an outstanding showing at the 2014 YCC tournament! The unknown team went into the tournament seeded 22nd (out of 23!), and stormed off to win its first three games in pool play vs teams from Indiana, Maine and New York. On day two, the solid play continued with a pre-quarter finals win in the morning against Chicago, followed by a narrow 9-8 loss vs.
Congratulations to the following players who have made the 2014 CUC YCC team! This team of elite under-19 players will represent our state at the U19 Youth Club Championships in Blaine, MN on August 9-10.
